CPR Plus CST Inc will use the CERT Training Manual from FEMA to prepare your company's employees for effective disaster response to help yourself, your co-workers, your family, and your neighbors in the event of a catastrophic disaster. Because emergency services personnel will not be able to help everyone immediately, employees that have been properly trained can make a difference to help save lives and protect property. Those trained employees may be the first responders during a major event.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) concept was developed and implemented by the City of Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) in 1985. They recognized that citizens would very likely be on their own during the early stages of a catastrophic disaster. Accordingly, LAFD decided that some basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills would improve the ability of citizens to survive until responders or other assistance could arrive. The Whittier Narrows earthquake in 1987 confirmed the need for training civilians to meet immediate post-disaster needs.
This training covers basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available. With training and practice and by working as a team, employees will be able to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people after a disaster, while helping individuals from becoming a victim. In 1994, the Emergency Management Institute (EMI), in cooperation with the LAFD, expanded the CERT materials to make them applicable to all hazards. CPR Plus will use our instructors deep knowledge base to help your employees appropriately identify and respond to emergencies they may encounter in the workplace.
All CPR Plus CST Inc instructors came from various backgrounds and experience to make the instruction they are performing the most real life experiences that your company can receive. Most of CPR Plus CST Inc CERT instructors belong to the Los Angeles City Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue Team, which has been deployed to most of the disasters in the United States.
The end of each initial class will include two full-scale disaster simulations with victims and activating all of the CERT positions.
